High rebate credit card, anyone?

Postby KCLau on Tue Jul 29, 2008 11:41 am

I used to use the eCosway Alliance credit card.

The rebate is used to be high because the point can be redeemed via their online auction. But the catch is that when the number of members keeps increasing, but the auctioned coupon and gift are limited, it takes more points to bid the same stuff than it used to be.

For example, I used to bid RM60 Nando's cash voucher for 15 points ( RM1500 charged to the credit card). But recently it takes more than 50 points. And at the last auction, there are no more Nando's cash voucher listed.

Moreover, since July 2008, eCosway no longer teams up with Alliance bank. They had switched to Ambank. If I want to accumulate the eCosway point, I would have to switch to use Ambank eCosway card. Because of the hassle, I never bothered to make any changes.

I guess there are a lot of rebate credit card out there. It depends on your spending habit to make use of the appropriate card. Let's say you always shop at Giant Hypermarket, you might want to use the Citibank Giant Credit Card. You might be using Shell Citibank Card if you frequent Shell petrol a lot.

Let's share what is the credit card you are using currently, and why? What's the goodies you get?

I'm using Petronas Maybankard Visa. It comes with 5x Treatpoints and stand a chance to win refill. This promotion is extended till Nov 2008. Besides, I can settle the bills via Maybank2U.

At the moment, I am having
1. Maybank Amex - 2x treat point for any transaction, including petrol. 2 years annual fees waived.
2. CIMB direct access Master Card - Free for life. At the moment, there's 2% rebate on petrol at any petrol station.

For petrol, prior to 2% rebate promotion, i have been using Maybank AMex for it's double treat point. At the moment, i switch to CIMB direct access master and earn bonus link rewards point by choosing shell.

My husband, instead, is using

1. CIMB direct access Master card - free for life.
2. Citibank Choice Card - free for life for any 2 transactions monthly.

As he is driving a diesal car, from the survey, it's recomended to use Petronas Diesal. With his Real Rewards/Mesra card and CIMB direct access card, there's how he earned rebate and rewards point.
