Education relief - income taxes

Postby midnight_pn on Fri Mar 28, 2008 1:58 am

Hi folks,

For YA2008, we get RM5000 education relief from IRB. How can this be utilised? What kinds of schools, courses, are eligible for this? E.g. language classes (Spanish, Mandarin), computer classes, CFP? Or possibly the 1-day or week long seminars held on REITs or on soft skills such as negotiations, etc?

Thanks ..

Yes for computer courses (Under Information & Communication Technology) if the course of study is up to tertiary level in institution or professional body within Malaysia, Local Government's recognition.

W.e.f. YA2008 such relief shall be extended to any course of studies for degree at Masters & Doctorate Level for the purpose of acquiring any skill or qualification.

Does anyone claim this relief before? Please provide the name of the courses and institution that's providing it if you had claimed this relief before.

Thanks

I did try to claim such relief as I took post graduate course in technical field. In Land revenue did call me for the confirmation of the course that i took.

For your info, the courses that you take for relief must be diploma and above level that related to IT, accountancy etc as per the tax description. Again the courses should be recognize by government like local institute like UTM, UPM or private institute that can show you the letter/cert that well recognize by goverment higher learning.

Hope this help

This is the most important part to verify your course is eligible or not.
Thanks Elaine!
