Tax Softwares

Postby JerryLee on Thu Apr 03, 2008 5:15 pm

I know back in the states they have load of tax software. I have not seen any until yesterday when I came across this TAXSAYA at http://www.taxsaya.com . They are apparently a MSC status company and are providing a FREE (wa lau!!) tax software.

Since you guys here are all finance experts, I would love some feedback on what you guys think.
WAH!! I love their couuntdown timer (like a doomsday timer) :) LOL

i am trying to think of a reason why i would use a tax software (given that i now file my taxes online) ... and i can't seem to find an answer to this. i'd have to add that mine is a fairly simple profile of - individual tax payer, single ... so not too complicated. but, i'm all ears if you can pitch the value of extra efforts to me. :|

I installed Taxsaya and tried it for a while. It is very easy to use. Taxsaya also has a support forum.

The upgrade to printable version with tax saving advice is quite cheap - RM20.08. Probably the next year version will cost RM20.09?

I wonder if they will provide free update of Taxsaya version because income tax ruling changes almost every year when national budget is announced.

Hai,

TaxSaya is first of all FREE for those who are content with the basic features.

Why should an average person use TaxSaya? Honestly very often we do our taxes and only at the end do we find out the magic figure. Here, everything is real time. As you enter your income or expenses, a tax payable LCD gives you an indication of tax payable /refund.

In addition even with the online e-filing module, it only serves as an entry panel of your final figures. ie Total Insurance, rental, etc. You dont actually have a spot to build up on your workings. E-filing is great but even then you are still required to have your documents well prepared once an audit is done on you. I guess in a way, TaxSaya is looking after your back not only for today but also to ensure that you have all your corners covered when the taxman comes knocking at your door.

There are loads more feature like multiple language support and printing of the form but this is not the forum nor method I should be doing this. Please download a copy and give it a try for yourself.

Regards,

Thana

After all your tax should be as easy as TaxSaya

Ooops.. one more thing

TaxSaya is an annual software release. There would be a new copy out every year and is independent of your current purchase. We are however looking into a mechanism to export your details into your next version in 2009.

.....and yes... we were toying with the idea of RM 20.09 next year... :)

I agree that Taxsaya is really easy to use. And the basic free version is pretty powerful already.

Hi,

I just came across this thread, and thought I would answer some of the questions here

midnight_pn wrote:i am trying to think of a reason why i would use a tax software (given that i now file my taxes online) ... and i can't seem to find an answer to this. i'd have to add that mine is a fairly simple profile of - individual tax payer, single ... so not too complicated. but, i'm all ears if you can pitch the value of extra efforts to me. :|

Actually, I believe that alot of people share your view that their returns are simple....but this can also mean that it is simple to get it wrong too ;) Even if you feel pretty sure about what you are doing, there is no harm in getting a second opinion ..... especially if it is FREE :)

To address your immediate question, let me give you some reasons that I can think of:
1. No matter how simple your tax is, what you need is to consider the work both prior and following the submission. TAXSAYA helps here to help you to organise your tax information, and secondly to help to provide a record of the details. Most people do not bother with the later, and so when the Tax officer calls for an audit, they do not have a record of the details
2. Regardless of how you want to do your filing, TAXSAYA will give you the template to help you understand how to fill in the return correctly. Filling in the return incorrectly, may mean that you pay more tax, you get a call from the IRB to help them correct the return, or you may not get your refund so quickly.
3. The paid version will also allow you to print out your detailed records and help you to identify areas in your return that may help you to reduce your tax, it will also prepare the actual Borang BE (which you can sign and submit) along with the HK-3. The HK-3 is filled out to ensure that the IRB can check it in the quickest possible time.
4. If your understanding Bahasa or Tax law is not so good, then you should appreciate the effort that we have gone to simplify all of this for you. My Basaha is not so good, so I certainly appreciate tools like this to help me do things faster and more accurately.....there is nothing worse than submitting a document like this and later wondering if you did it correctly
5. It is FREE, so what do you have to loose ;-)

Nothing has really been decided at the moment...A lot depends here on what kind of support/feedback do we end up getting from the public. I am finding it a little difficult to look find and respond to all this forums that are popping up, it would definitely make life easier for me to see all your comments/questions if they were directed to our forum (http:forum.saysaya.com)I am planning to do this again next year, but I am also looking to everyone for comments, on how we can make it better. It will also make it a lot easier for us if we have more people opting for the paid version ;-)

Thanks for the feedback.
