Difference between investing UT in Malaysia and Oversea?

Postby Relax on Fri Apr 11, 2008 12:59 am

Hi. I am new here. I am also a newbie
Nice to meet you :)

Personally I would invest UT in Malaysia. I sayang my country.

I think the main difference is that we play double risk if we invest in oversea UT, due to forex risk. Unless the oversea fund grows extremely wild (maybe 100% per year)
I would not want to take the forex risk.

The load fees in Malaysia is a headache. I hope Vanguard will come to Malaysia

Hi Relax,

I think it also depends on where you want to spend the money.
I mean if you want the money stored in Malaysia for your retirement, then you shall be patriotic

If you are going to use the money in oversea, invest it there at might be a choice too.

Dear KC,

Are there any benefits investing in all kinds of Unit Trusts Funds i.e. China Fund, South-East Asia Fund, Domestic/Local market, Index Fund, Syariah Funds, etc......

E.g. if I have 10K to invest, is it wise to invest 1K into each if these different Funds (diversify) or just put most money into 1 or 2 funds ?

Thanks,
Ken

Hi Ken,

Basically diversification provide a greater mix of exposure so that you can lower the risk.
However, it might lower your return as well. Furthermore, it gets more complicated to monitor a lot of funds.

As a start, I would say choose 2-4 funds to begin with.

actually invest in local unit trust also have some risk...it's depend on own risk appetite...if you are risk adverse than better diversify it into several funds while if you risk taker then can focus on only one fund since can generate more return, m i right??

basically unit trust are quite diversified. If you can take risk, go for a certain company/stocks that you think can give you the highest return in long term.
